Employee Newsletter: Quarterly Update
July-September 2020
HR Department: Employees Working Together
Champion Elevator is pleased to announce that the Employee (EE) HR Portal migrated on August 31 from BambooHR to a new HR Self Service portal – iSolved Zuma Payroll, where our employee payroll data currently resides. BambookHR will be officially discontinued.
The iSolved Zuma Payroll portal now links all our services together, so we have a fully integrated employee management system supporting HR, Payroll, Recruitment, Training, and Team Engagement, as we put forth our best practices.
Our objective is to make your work life easier because you are at the center of all that we do. The new EE HR portal will put you in the driver’s seat by giving you more access, convenience, and ability to update your personal information.
The HR data available is always the same, allowing employees to view basic HR and personal information, earning statements, and easily change things like their home address, contact information, basic tax information, or banking direct deposit.

Major win in the 3rd Quarter: Industry City – Modernization
Champion Elevator is proud to announce the Modernization award of 4 elevators at Industry City.
The scope of our Modernization includes, but is not limited to, installing new PMAC Gearless machines and installing new VVVF controllers. We will be replacing the existing cabs with new modern designs, along with new car and hall call fixtures. Through this modernization, we will be increasing the level of efficiency for both the riding public and ownership through energy conservation.

“TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK”
Service Department
Hello again to everyone. Another quarter has passed by here at Champion Elevator. It has been a very successful time for us, as we have continued to grow our Service portfolio and now have over 1500 elevators on service with many more to come. We want to thank all our service techs and supervisors for all the great work you have been doing. We want to give a special thanks to Lucy for all the work she does in the Service and Repair departments. We would not continue to grow without the work performed by all of you, and we are getting great feedback from customers on the work you all are doing. This has been a quarter of change in the Service department: We welcomed Antonio Arcamone to our Manhattan area, Danny Philpin to the Westchester area, and Paul Peach to a management position in Service. There are also some bitter sweet changes: We also say goodbyes and thanks to a few of our techs, Carmine Yodice, Danny Griffin, and Mike Coiro, who have put their time in and have retired to start a new chapter in their lives. I have worked with these techs for many years and I am grateful for the way they performed their jobs on a daily basis. They carried themselves in the utmost professional way and have made my job a little bit easier knowing they were there every day. I will always consider them my friends and will always be there for them.
We also would like to announce that, with the retirement of Mike Coiro at Co Op City, the company has promoted Frank Feniello to over see the Service end of Co Op City. Frank has been doing an excellent job managing the on-going Modernizations at Co Op and we want to congratulate him for his new position. We also want to let Frank know we will be here to help him with any needs he may have. We also want to congratulate Rocco Patto, who has been promoted to Foreman at Co Op, and Albert Ramirez, who has worked his way up from being Rocco’s helper to “A” Maintenance Tech. Albert will man the evening shift at Co Op City.
It has been a very good quarter for Champion Elevator considering the crazy times we all have been living through with the Covid19 pandemic still out there. We want to remind everyone to continue to follow the CDC guidelines to wear your mask and wash your hands. Also please continue to work safely. See you all next quarter!
Repair Operations Department
The repair operations department had another solid quarter. We performed on par with our year end forecasts and saw an increase in our backlog through collaboration with our sales team.
Although we did see an increase in our backlog over the last month, we are constantly in need of more work for our teams as our burn rate is always changing. During the next quarter, we will be releasing new technology to the field that we hope will bring more leads for repair, while incentivizing our employees to better serve our customers. An official launch announcement and training are planned for early October.
During the 4th quarter, we will also be launching several initiatives to reinforce Champion’s commitment to safety. We have already started certification of all of our rigging equipment and have purchased new barricades for each team. Our 3rd quarter safety training was conducted via Zoom meetings over 3 days and was deemed a success based on the feedback received. 4th quarter safety training will be scheduled shortly.
Repair welcomed 2 new teams to our Champion family: one for light repair (M&R) with Domenic Randazzo and Joe Rosa, and the other a hybrid testing/heavy repair team with Jimmy Martinez and Tim St George. This brings our total number of teams between New York and Connecticut to 8, reaching another milestone of growth for Champion. Welcome to Champion!
During this quarter we would like to recognize Gus Collado for his outstanding job performance during our transition to our new structure and commitment to making Champion a world class service provider. Gus has been working hard and consistently performs at a high level while always offering support to his team mates.
THANK YOU Gus. As we move into the final quarter of the year I’d like everyone to keep their personal and professional goals on the front burner and strive for excellence in all you do. Champion thanks everyone in our family for their commitment to making our company a success.
Stay safe and be mindful of others.
Thank you,
Ted Mazola
Vice President Repair Operations
Modernization & Construction Department
The modernization department is in full force. We continue to progress with all mod jobs despite all the COVID-19 challenges.
We’re currently operating with 27 teams with plans to add 3 more teams by the end of September.
Co-Op City Project
Congratulations to everyone involved with this job. We’re quickly approaching the official halfway mark. We’re almost there!!
- We’re currently working on the second car of each duplex in each building. Despite the two weeks we lost during the COVID-19 shutdown, we’re actually four weeks ahead of the customer’s schedule. Truly an amazing accomplishment so far!
- Wearing additional PPE, specifically masks and facial coverings, proved to be extremely fatiguing and physically debilitating at times.
- We thank everyone for all their efforts and for their relentless fortitude. We greatly appreciate each one of you.
Testing & Violations Department
I am very pleased to announce that Juan Hernandez has joined our Testing Department. Juan will be working with Steve Toscano, performing Cat 1 & Cat 5 Year tests.
